This week we will be working on some more campcraft skill and will be learning how to put up different types of tents. I hope that everyone who can make it does as it will once again be important skills to gain before we head off on camp.
Please see attached for the camp information and form.
Just emailing to say that there won't be a pets night on friday because Stephen, Trent and Lachlan won't be there. They are going to attend something at their old primary school. This has just been confirmed.
Hope no-one is too disappointed. See you in a couple of weeks.
Just thought that you may wish to have a look at this one, the details are not set as yet, but next year as a part of the Centenary of Scouting, Queensland Branch Scout Association will be given the Keys to the City of Brisbane. I would think that all Scouts in our Troop would like to be involved in this and show our support for Scouting and all the wonderful things it has done over the years.
Lets all make an extra effort to put Scouting back in the Public Eye over the next year or so and let everyone know how great Scouting is and how proud we are to be Scouts. I think that we should also put in a little extra effort, after all we are on of the oldest Scout Troops in Australia!
Firstly, I hope that everyone enjoyed the cooking night last friday and that they enjoyed the Damper. I hope that we can repeat the effort on camp next month, damper is great with breakfast.
Secondly, could I please hear from those of the Patrol Leaders and APLs who are organising the Pet Night for this Friday. Could you email out details to everyone asap and tell me if you have any games/activities in mind for the rest of the night.
As a general reminder we have a weekend Camp on the 1-3 December 2006. This will be the last camp of the year and I urge everyone to attend. If you have friends who wish to come also, we can arrange forms for them. The cost will be around $25-30 per person and we will be looking for some parents who can assist us in getting to and from camp. There is also a chance of some Scouts from another Troop
joining us, so we'll have to make sure that we are all brushed up and ready for Camp. Further details will follow soon.
I would like to ask that all Scouts remember to bring your Full Uniform, Green Books, Subs & Pen & Paper for Friday's meeting. Make arrangements thursday night so that you have it all ready for Friday Night.
See you all Friday night and don't forget to invite a friend.
I would like to ask that all Scouts remember to bring your Full Uniform, Green Books, Subs & Pen & Paper for Friday's meeting. Make arrangements tonight so that you have it all ready for Tomorrow Night.
We will be doing a Camp Cooking Night, (weather permitting) so you may wish to bring along a change of shirt to get a bit messy (maybe...)
Also a bit of a last minute notice, for those of you who may be looking at earning your 'Their Service, Our Heritage' badge, there is an opportunity to attend a Rememberence Day Service on Saturday. Ever RSL hosts one, but as it is a little more low key than ANZAC Day, the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL Sub-Branch hosts it at their RSL Club at 2 Clewley St, Corinda (see map below).
There will be a few Rovers in attendence that I know of, and perhaps some Leaders, but if you are interested in
showing your respect and support, and earning a Badge to boot, go along and take your family. There is usually light refreshments served in the clubhouse afterwards.
See you all tomorrow night and don't forget to invite a friend.
For those that couldn't make it last night we had a great time fishing from the pontoon under the bridge. Stephen (no scout name yet) brought along plenty of rods and Wolf brought the prawns for bait. The rain held off and we were dry but for a few drops.
We welcomed three new Scouts who came to have a look and hopefully they'll be back next week.
First to catch was Robert who caught a crab which let go of the bait as it was being hauled in.
Wolf and Stephen (needs scout name urgently) jumped in to drag in a big un, see photo, but it got away as they were trying to climb up the muddy bank. (I blurred the faces to comply with Scout Assocaition privacy laws).
I would just like to remind you what you will need this week:
- Permission Form (very important, you cannot come without one)
- Fishing Gear (and extras if you have them, for those who don't.)
- Bait (what ever you think will work)
- Rain Coat
- Green Badge Book
- Pen & Paper
- Subs
- Uniform
And if you can manage it, bring a friend or two as well!
We will be meeting at the den and walking down to the pontoon on the far side of the Bridge. There will be 3 Adult Leaders in attendence, but parents are welcome to join in if they would like. We will then conclude the night back at the Den.
Yours in Scouting,
'WOLF'

Attached is a permission form for the fishing night on Friday night.
To attend you must have a signed form with you on Friday night.
Last week Stephen said he had some fishing gear which he would bring to share. If anyone else knows anything about fishing and have any to share please reply to this email. We will need something for bait, what do eels like to bite?
Subject: Re: [indooroopillyscouts] Anchor Badge II qualification course date
Hi Magpie,
Looking forward to Scouts starting up again and it all sounds great. I am a bit confused about the canoe anchor badge course - the two flyers had different dates on them 13/10 - 15/10 and 10/11 - 12/11 - are they different courses or just the dates weren't changed on one.

This term we get down to some serious Scouting and some serious fun.
News
This term there are a few changes, all for the better:
Subs - So that we can buy badges to present to you for your achievements we will be charging an absolute minumum subs of $2 per week which will be collected by your Patrol Leader on the night.
Uniform - I said we were getting serious. Wear your uniform and receive a nice prize (for those that don't remember uniform is - clean well mannered person with combed hair, scarf and woggle, Scout shirt, shorts or pants of your choice preferrably blue, socks, and enclosed shoes). There's another reason but we'll get to it later.
Wolf - He won't bite and if you put on your best behaviour he might decide to become a Scout Leader with us. Come along on Friday to meet Wolf, you may already know him from around the place.
Guides Australia - As from this Friday for the first time that anyone can remember Guides will start meeting at our Den. Indooroopilly Guides will be there when we arrive anf for the first half hour so we will go straight into the Scout room and not annoy them. I told you there was a reason to start looking like Scouts again.
Soccer - Soccer season is over so please leave your soccer balls at home. Wolf knows some great Scout games and you might be lucky to enjoy some on Friday night.
This Friday
The Guides are going to get the Joey room and as part of the clean out we are getting a cupboard and the TV and Video from the Joey room. We'll need some help to do the removals.
Please email me any badges you think you have earnt but not got yet. I keep hearing stories so let's get some lists and Dingo will go to the Scout Centre and buy them.
(For your interest attached is a picture of some shells found at the site of the first Scout camp on Brownsea Island 1907. A friend of mine in England found them and has posted them to me and I will show them to you when they eventually arrive.)
Scouts are scheduled for tomorrow night, Friday, and then the next two Fridays are holidays.
We scored about 4 excellent lightweight hike tents from St Lucia Scout Group which closed down recently. Tomorrow night at Scouts we'll set these up and see how good they are.
After our final clean out of the Scout room last friday we now have our own place in the den for the first time in a long while. A big trailer load went to the dump on Saturday.
It was decided at Scouts last week that we would carpet the room with the grey carpet squares that are permanently stacked near the door. I'll try to remember to bring a vacuum to pick up the last of the dust before the carpet goes down.
The Patrol Leaders now have a job to decide if we are going to have Patrol corners and if so which one. Aside from that we can start to get everything in order such as setting up Patrol boxes, one for each Patrol with camping equipment, painting the Patrol name or badge on the box, and decorating the room. I'll leave this opportunity to the Patrol Leaders to do what they want.

Scouts Friday night
Indooroopilly Scouts,
I haven't been particularly well since my last email and
have also been distracted by preparations for starting a business. As a
result have not done any organisation for the District Camp scheduled for this
weekend which is now too late to pursue.
You would have received an email from Group Leader Andy Hall
postponing the Group Camp. This, plus the above, means that we can meet
on the Fridays 15th and 25th of August which were not included in the Scout
calendar. If you can make it on Friday night it would be great to see
you. We'll go with the program that was planned for last Friday.
Robert, my son, has just gone down with the bug so he will not be joining
us. I have membership certificates for Seb and Matthew and a first aid
badge for Rafiki.
The Group Leader has also advised that kick boxing are no
longer leasing the Den and as a result Monday and Thursday nights have become
available for Scouts if we wish to change to either of those nights,
or continue on Friday night. I would appreciate your
comments and preference.
As of the start of next term we will reinstate subs which
will be charged at the mimimum rate of $2 night. This will pay for
our badges and things we use on the night. It may be more convenient to
collect it in one hit at the start of the term.

Thanks for all the emails. Sorry it's taken me so long to make contact. We too ( the whole family - serially) succumbed to the dreaded lurgi and Laura is only now starting to catch up on all the school work she missed - that's why we haven't been attending - or emailing. I am still not feeeling 100% after nearly 3 weeks!
Hope you are feeling better soon and look forward to meeting you at Scouts.

Dear Indooroopilly Scouts,
Unfortunately I have fallen victim to the dreaded lurgi and am going downhill fast - you name it I've got it.
As both Rafiki and I are unable to attend tomorrow night (Friday 18th August) we have decided to give everyone the night off.
You might like to do a quick reply to this email so that we know you got the message.
(apologies to those who have doubled up on this distribution - Magpie)
Parents / Scouts
As we do not have sufficient numbers attending to run the Trivia Night this weekend, probably due to a clash with the Ekka holiday, we have decided that the event will be postponed until the 4th November 2006 (same timing as planned - see below).
Apologies to those that were going to attend this weekend, but put the new date into your diaries!

On Friday we started the World Scouting proficiency badge. To recap we found out about WOSM, saw a show and tell on the 2003 20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand, and were given some websites where more information could be found about World Scouting.
We also got a job to do which was to make some regular contacts with Scouts in other parts of the World. A good way to do this is through the supervised Scoutlink chatrooms which operate 24/7. If you use the mIRC chat program you can find details at www.scoutlink.net.au but the best way to chat on Scoutlink is to follow these steps:
3. You will be automatically connected and this will take a few minutes so be patient.
4. When you are connected and all the announcements have filled up the page click on 'channels' at the top and then double click on either 'English' or 'Youth'.
5. When you are in the chat channel a list is on the right with all the nick names of the people who are there with you. Your nickname will start with 'sloz' (which means Scoutlink Australia). To chat type some text in the box at the bottom and press enter.
These chatrooms are supervised by adult leaders and are exclusively for Scouts and Guides however be sensible and ask a parent to keep an eye on the conversation and don't give out any personal details. If you meet someone called Jabiru say hi to him from me. By choosing the time of day to chat be aware of what time it is in Europe or USA for example as they are often sleeping when we are awake.
Let us all know how you went when we meet at Scouts on Friday night. We'll also be using Scoutlink chatrooms during the Jamboree On The Air and Jamboree On The Internet sleepover on 21-22 October.

Please find attached a program for the District Camp. The camp fee is $20 per person to cover camp fees, abseiling activity fees, etc. If any parents would like to join in the fun please see me at Scouts.
I hope to see you at Scouts tonight. We'll be experiencing World Scouting, playing a Scout game (of your choice) from another country, and maybe a little lantern stalking in the creek, if we have time.
We have five starters for the Planetarium on Saturday afternoon (2.30pm - 4.00) and just need five more to get the group discount. Parents and others are very welcome.
You may have noticed that we now have a yahoo group for our Troop. If the PL's are OK with it I'll make them moderators.
