New media workshop for the WGIP 2006   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #25 of 26 |
Dear friends of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples,
during the 23rd session of UN’s WGIP 2005, several indigenous delegates
raised a request to fPcN, to arrange a workshop for the next WGIP 2006.
Please find below the draft of an educational new media project for
indigenous delegates over a five-day workshop, to be held one week before
WGIP 2006. Organised by: “friends of Peoples close to Nature” (fPcN
Germany) in collaboration with the University of Lüneburg, Germany. This
workshop will be one of our contributions to the Second Decade of
Indigenous Peoples.

We already talked personally with Mr. Julian Burger from OHCHR in Geneva
about this workshop and he was very interested on this. To go ahead and to
get the full support from the OHCHR/WGIP we would ask you to send us a
supporting letter, signed and scanned, from your organisation on this
issue.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome!

Sincerely

Steffen Keulig

Draft: Educational new media project for indigenous delegates over a
five-day workshop, to be held one week before WGIP 2006.
Organised by: “friends of Peoples close to Nature” (fPcN Germany) in
collaboration with the University of Lüneburg, Germany.

During the 23rd session of UN’s Working Group for Indigenous Populations
2005, several indigenous delegates raised a request to fPcN, to arrange
such a workshop. Please find attached supporting letters from various
indigenous organisations for this project. This workshop will be one of
our contributions to the Second Decade of Indigenous Peoples.

Goal: Our purpose is to educate indigenous delegates in information
technology, including; sound/film recording and documentation including
publishing. The training will be presented in a very simple and
easy-to-understand visual style. Special Advisors, which are experts in
their field, will lend their expertise to the workshop. This
knowledge-transfer will be a unique tool that can be used in the
indigenous-controlled education of indigenous peoples, to share and, as a
result, validate indigenous solutions and alternatives; increase awareness
about similar issues; challenges and problems faced by many indigenous
peoples and nations; increase awareness about the promotion of rights and
how to have them recognised.

The primary target audience of the project is the world's indigenous
peoples with special focus on, their:

Political & Human Right Issues:
Human right violations; cultural oppression, racism, sovereignty,
self-determination, land and territory disputes and collective ownership
rights of traditional knowledge as well as recognition of indigenous
people’s rights by states and inappropriate education programmes.

b) Environmental Issues:
Un-sustainable resource extraction and management; (logging, mining, oil,
gas, grazing, fisheries etc.) and large-scale development projects; (dams,
roads, oil and gas pipelines, mining, etc.) and Transmigration projects.

secretariat)

Equipment: Mac Power books G4 or G5, Digital Video- and Photo cameras,
mechanical Photo cameras. Editing Software: I-Movie, DVD Studio Pro,
Soundtrack, Compressor (contributed by fPcN and the University of

and Students from the University of Lüneburg, Germany (fPcN Volunteers) as
personal advisers.
