I hope that Ramadhaan is going well. This is Professor Versatil writing to invite anyone who has the means to come out to the Capoeira Batuque Japao Encounter 2007, October 18th through the 29th:

 

This year’s Encounter will be the biggest that we have had in Japan.  Featuring, Mestre Amen Santo, head of Capoeira Batuque ad known for the film “Only The Strong”; Mestre Marcelo Caverinha, Famouse for the Character Eddie Gordo from Tekken2; Contramestre Mariano, and myself Professor Versatil. Please let me know as soon as possible if anyone is interested in coming and I will work with our students in Japan to find cheap housing for the stay there. Keep training and keep the Axe alive. Hope to see you all in Japan, and will definitely catch you next time I’m in Malaysia.

This passage is a short, easy read that explains, in brief the history of Islam in Brasil. This may give you glimpses of the importance of Islam in the development and history of Capoeira. There were many faiths and cultures that contributed to the triumph of freedom that is Capoeira. Islam was not a small part. O Islam nas Raízes do Brasil

No Brasil o fenômeno do negro muçulmano é um dos fatos mais curiosos da história social brasileira, muçulmanos eram os negros Sudaneses, com aqueles oriundos de mestiçados berberes, que destruíram o império de Ghana, já no fim do século XVII os Mandingas acabaram representando sensível coeficiente no conjunto dos escravos do Brasil.

Assim os descreve Arthur Ramos em sua obra:

''Eram altos, robustos, fortes e trabalhadores. Usavam como os outros negros muçulmanos, um pequeno cavanhaque, de vida regular e austera, não se misturavam com os outros escravos.''

Eram os responsáveis pêlos movimentos de libertação do negros escravos no Brasil,    eram grandes guerreiros uma herança social que carregavam com sigo, devido as batalhas pela religião Islâmica, que asseguravam na África o domínio total do Islam.

Eram denominados de Males, mas também eram conhecidos pôr Mucuim, Muxurimim, Muçulimi, Muçurumi, eram totalmente monoteístas, não eram idólatras, usavam amuletos com versículos do Alcorão Sagrado, escritos em Árabe, possuíam conselheiros ou juizes chamados de Alufas, a quem ouviam e respeitavam.

Foram responsáveis pelas revoltas de escravos negros no Brasil,  em 1807, 1809, 1813, 1816, 1827 e a guerra dos Malês em 1835, os quais sabiam a língua Árabe.

Quem melhor os estudou  foi Nina Rodrigues, através de seus estudos, descobriu-se que vieram da África pregadores para lhes ensinar a leitura em Árabe do Alcorão Sagrado, lutaram sempre contra os ensinamentos da igreja católica.

O chefe de polícia da época, o Visconde de São Leopoldo, afirmou que:

''A insurreição estava tramada há muito tempo, num plano superior ao que sabíamos de sua brutalidade e ignorância. Em geral, todos sabem ler e escrever em caracteres desconhecidos ( o Árabe no caso), que se assemelham ao Árabe, tinham mestres que davam lições e tratavam de organizar a insurreição na qual entravam muitos forros africanos e até ricos. Têm sido encontrados muitos livros, alguns dos quais dizem ser preceitos religiosos, tirados de misturas de seitas, principalmente do Alcorão Sagrado.''

Nina Rodrigues mandou traduzir alguns papéis encontrados entres eles, ao qual a origem Árabe é clara, os quais foram traduzidos como veremos a seguir:

''Em Nome de Deus, O Clemente, O Misericordioso ! Derrama-se a Benção de Deus sobre o nosso mestre Muhammad, sobre a sua família os seus companheiros, bem assim como a saudação.''

E a seguir:

''Obedeço a ordem do Senhor Misericordioso''

E ainda:

''Ali, Gabriel, Muhammad, José, Ismael, Salomão, Moisés, Davi e Jesus''

Em outra peça, no verso uma estrela e em cada raio a palavra ''Muhammad''.

Em um canto:

''Em Nome de Deus, O Clemente, O Misericordioso!''

Em outra peça uma Surata do Alcorão Sagrado, repetida seis vezes:

Pelo convênio dos coraixitas,

O convênio das viagens de inverno e de verão!

Que adorem o Senhor desta Casa!

Que os provê contra a fome e os salvaguarda do temor!

(Surata de nº 106 do Alcorão Sagrado, '' Os Coraixitas'')

Trecho de um documento dos malês Museu Histórico da Bahia

Manuel Quirino descreve-lhes a oração:

''Recolhiam-se os Malês cedo aos seus aposentos de dormir, pois que em geral o africano não se expõe ao sereno; as quatro horas da manhã levantavam-se para fazer sala (salat em Árabe, que significa oração), que é a oração da manhã e da noite.''

Praticavam este cerimonial deste modo:

''Sem trocar palavra com alguém, lavavam o rosto, as mãos, a planta dos pés, sentavam-se na água, vestiam camisa comprida, calças, enfiavam um gorro com borla caída, tudo de algodão bem alvo e munidos de um rosário, a teceda de cinqüenta centímetros de comprimento, tendo 99 contas de madeira, terminado pôr uma bola em vez de uma cruz, davam começo a oração de pé sobre uma pele de carneiro.

Os homens colocavam-se à frente das mulheres, quando rezavam pelas contas menores de seu rosário, conservavam-se sentados; passando as maiores, equivalente aos padre-nossos, levantavam-se.

Nessa ocasião, com as mãos abertas e tendo o corpo inclinado em demonstração de reverência, diziam:

''Ala Alla u Acubari'', em Árabe correto ''Allahu Akbar'',  ''Deus é o Maior''.

Em seguida levantavam os olhos para o alto e baixavam, com um gesto de saudação; com as mãos sobre os joelhos faziam o sinal de continência com a cabeça; proferiam certas palavras e sentavam-se ao de lado, continuando a rezar pelas contas menores.

Quem podia efetuava, esse exercício cinco vezes pôr dia:

1º Açuba;                        

2º Ali lá;

3ºAA a sari;

4º Ali mangaribá;

5º Adixá

Em Árabe correto:

1º Fajar

2º Zohar

3º Asr

4º Maghrib

5º Icha

Finalizando a oração diziam ''Aliramudolilai'' em Árabe correto ''Alhamidu Lillah'', ''Louvado Seja Deus'', sempre como se vê em Árabe corrompido, a qualquer ato que o Malê tinha que praticar antecedia-o a expressão, como fazem os Árabes, ''Bisimilá'', em Árabe correto ''Bismillah'' que significa, ''Em Nome de Deus''.

Ao fim diziam uns aos outros:

''Barica da subá'' ( Deus lhe dê um bom dia). O lugar em que se praticavam este ato chamava-se ''Maçalasi''.''

Em Árabe ''Masjid'', ''Mesquita'' em português, local de oração dos muçulmanos.

Dos levantes que mais transtornaram os governantes do Brasil, antes da Proclamação da Independência, até o período da Proclamação da República, os designados como Revolta dos Malês, e, em especial, a de 1835, são os de maior destaque.

Muito mais do que esses fatos existe para ser resgatado da Verdade da História do Brasil e da Humanidade.
