Hello guys,

If you're going to drop by hockey this Thursday, we'll NOT be in Bedok but will be trying out a location at Kallang CC with the possibility of shifting there in the future. The CC is right beside Boon Keng MRT on the NEL and there are buses towards the east as well as to Ang Mo Kio so it's actually pretty accessible.

Here's the map:
http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_4462/travel_site_43106/

We'll be there from 8-10 so drop by and if you're lost, my number's 91273818.

Bring your own unicycles because we won't have spares for this week. We'll bring the sticks though. If Larry brings his basketball, we might try uni basketball too.

Hello all,

Runway Cycling happens this Sunday. A group of us will be meeting at 730am at Eunos MRT (Larry, am I right?) for the obligatory breakfast and kopi-kao. Do join us because it's a good excuse to lose a bit of fat and get a tan. Most of us will be doing the 10/15km ride but a few of us will try to do a full 45km. If you can't make it for breakfast, you should still come along for the ride cos we won't finish 45km that fast.

Here's the road layout and more information: http://www.safra.sg/page.aspx?pageid=332

Also, today's hockey was held at Kallang CC. We had a bit of a rough start and ended up with half a basketball court and a pretty makeshift game. Apologies to those who were there and didn't get to play as much as they'd like. We'd be back at Bedok until we get a date and booking sorted out. So next week's hockey game is back at Bedok.

Here's a poll for you guys who would be tempted to come by our game sometime. Would you prefer a Tuesday or a Thursday date at Kallang CC (this is beside Boon Keng MRT on the NEL and also cycling distance from Kallang)?

Tues
1.

Thurs
1.

Also for those who've come by and have more to say about the area but didn't want to say it to a crowd, feel free to drop me an email or start a discussion here.

Hey,

I realize that my opinion has little sway as I am leaving, but will put it down anyways.

I understand that you are trying to make it more convenient for new folks to come to the group and try Unicycling, but there doesn't seem to be a good place to learn in that area. Also its takes away from what I feel the purpose of the group really is, which is hockey.  If you want to make it easier for people, I think there needs to be more weekend workshops, I don't know who could run them, but I think that is the way to get new people.

So don't move, unless the other place is kicking us out.

Forrest, are you referring to the rail area? Cos the whole 'stage' area is open to us and the back of that area is walled pretty similar to how it was like at Bedok before the renovation works... someone did mention that that way looks curved so it looks intimidating but did you guys try that area out and how is it if you ahve.

I KNOW I'm going to sound like a strong advocate for the new place but if anyone has a good point apart from 'Up to you' or 'Anything', I'm all ears.

Yes, the main point thus far is hockey but I feel like we should diversify the kind of unicycle sports we can do as a team and a community. One of the things that really attracts me to the new place is the promise of support. Right now, the only difference if we were to go completely autonomous or if we were to continue having Bunga Merah CC tagged to us is store room space. At Kallang CC, there's potentially an indoor hall we can use for freestyle practice, the full basketball court we'd play hockey on (or basketball if we want) and we can do some skills exchange and gain some members from the Juggling Club which they're housing. Lights are also being controlled by the CC itself so we can request for it to be extended if we want. And we can request for equipment (I'm thinking an ultimate wheel + a giraffe) to make us more legit a unicycle club.

The main grouse was that the area is a bit too crowded and it's tiring to have to argue with people over space. I don't see that as being any different from our place in Bedok where we've had more than a few occasions where the lights are malfunctioning or we had kids playing. For practically half a year, we were playing at the street soccer court behind the bus stop because there was works going on or the lights were just not turned on. And of course when there were kids playing, it was the same chasing them out of the place rather than legitimately having a banner that says we're entitled to the spot.

I really do feel that we can better grow a community this way. I'm more than a little tired of the one-sided relationship we currently have with the CC.

Don't let me scare you guys into offering further comments though. I think debate means that we're all considering the pros + cons carefully.

The stage area isn't really going to work I don't think, unless we are able to get some rails we could put up. But having my sister and friends try it, wasn't as easy to use as the one at Bedok.

But my main issue was that our size had been cut down. If we are able to get the whole Basketball court, hell go for it. The small futsal area is way to small and I don't think being enclosed is good for our safety. Just if we end up sacrificing space for convenience I think its a bust.

Only issue is space for me. It sounds like if we get the basketball court and have support from the CC we will be well on our way to growing exponentially.

Very disjointed email I realize, not sure what is up with me today.

Hi Everyone,

I've uploaded photos from the ride today.  We did over 20km, and that's only counting the ride to the air base in one direction (and not the way back).  But that was a very long kilometer to the air base!
