8 copies of LW 8 has been shipped to Singapore Click Grafix but my
copy is not one of them! More waiting again. Anyone lucky one so far?

Hi Ernest!

Well, it covers the basics. Once you have completed the course, you
should be able to learn more advanced stuff on your own from the
internet since you would be able to understand the jargon ,
rechniques and interfaces of LW by then.

Thanks

i would say it's low price is 1 of its advantanges, rather than its
weakness.
however, if you were to compare only student pricing, softimage is actually
cheaper. just that you do not have the option of upgrading to a commercial
license in future.

each of the big 6 packages have their own ways of working around things. you
just have to find 1 which you're comfortable with, and for those just
starting out, pricing is probably what they look out for most.

though the local schools use mostly 3ds max. it's not hard to reapply the
same knowledge in another package. the 1st software you learn is always the
hardest.

Well, that's a very good question.

Some say that LW 7.5's only glaring weakness is its lack of Hard
body dynamics or should I say "Physics Simulation". However, this
problem has been solved with LW 8. It's just come out. Check out
Clickgrafix's website.

Some say that LW has a poor interface when it comes to character
animation. However, LW has one of the industry's best built in
renderer and modeler interface.

As a result, most companies do the modeling on LW, port it over to
Maya for animation (since Maya's the best for character animation)
and port the file back into LW for rendering. A company that does
this is Digital Domain and they have been doing this for quite
sometime.

I'm not very sure why Max costs so much. Some have claimed that it's
due to their monopoly of the 3D market. 3DSMax Ver 5.1 was very
unstable. It crashed quite often. It's better now with version 6
though.

As for LW, user reports on www.cgtalk.com reveal that LW 8 (the
first release) is already pretty stable. Not bad.

Thanks for asking!

I feel that $990 for 30 hours basic class is too expensive. If use 30

Hello all!

The meeting on the 9th of May is just a gathering and discussion
session. Such meetings let lightwave users to share information,
something which is very important and discuss where this group is
going.

The coming meeting is also a time for people to discuss how the
upcoming screening should be carried out. You can event submit LW
works (stills or animations)if you'd like to! All are welcomed!

The screening which we are planning for the 30th of May is to show
off what lightwave 3D can do. We hope to use this screening to
increase Lightwave's awareness and hope that more people here in
singapore will get to know why this piece of software won the Emmy
technical awards in 2003. Once again, all who are interested in 3D
are welcomed. The show will be under Mindwork's name.

For BOTH occasions, I also hope to give LW users and non-users alike
to network, discuss, talk and share information. That's what we
badly need right now. A community of somekind that we can look to
for support, guidance, friendship and support from each other as we
embark on an uncharted journey of self discovery, expression,
passion and doing what we all love. 3D graphics!

BTW Infinix, the basic LW3D 7.5 course at Mindworks is $990 for 30
hours.

Once again, thanks for all of your support and let's not forget to
welcome our 2 newcomers! Welcome! We now have 19 registered members!

I think lightwave screening is one way to showcase works created on
Lightwave so ppl won't think that we are using an "inferior" product.
And also to show abilities of our LIghtwave Artist.
What we are trying to do is just to try to bring all Lightwave ppl
together. A bit like what Cgtalk has developed into. And also maybe
attract undecided ppl to try out lightwave.
Meeting will be for members and others to see if they would like to
join our "cause".

sidenote: My show is filming next week till mid July.. not sure if my
weekends are burned yet.. So good luck to the organisers and thanks
to spin networks and Mindworks.

Question: How much is the Lightwave Course at Mindworks? I might get
started with Lightwave over again...
If you know anyone selling the Dvds cheap.. let me know can?

the daily schedule's not out yet (at least not to us drones). if it were
similar to last year's exhibition, it'd be 2pm - 9pm. i'll see if i can get
a friend to look after my post while i sneak out.

speaking of which, anyone coming down to nafa grad show?
